Thinking you can save some money by repairing your broken appliances yourself? Dependable Refrigeration, a Tucson Arizona Magic Chef, Bosch, Amana, Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Jenn Air, Kitchenaid, GE, Tappan, Maytag, Frigidaire and Admiral appliance service repair company offers these recommendations.

To do your own appliance repair you must figure out what part might be causing the problem. Is your washing machine not spinning? Is your refrigerator no longer cooling? Is your gas oven no longer heating? This will give you a general idea on where to look on an appliance and where to begin troubleshooting. Always be safe, take some basic precautions before you attempt to make any appliance repairs yourself.

Refer is to the instruction manual that came with the appliance. These manuals usually have not only installation and safety information but troubleshooting information as well. The troubleshooting fixes will be basic in nature and easy enough for the average consumer to handle. Some manufacturers also offer a customer service support number for consumers to call with questions or complaints. You may also want to check your warranty coverage especially if the fix is not an easy one.

Will you be installing the appliance parts yourself or will you be using a local company? If you decide to do it on your own, you will need to figure out where to go to get your kitchen appliance repair parts. If so, just make sure that you do some comparison shopping before you purchase any kitchen appliance repair parts, because you want to make sure that you get them at the lowest possible price. Finally comes the installation of the kitchen appliance repair parts. This should not take long and the appliance should run just like normal again.

Check to see any obvious signs of damage to appliances and their parts. Sometimes your eyes can be your best tool for troubleshooting. Look for obvious signs that a part is no longer good. It may be broken, burnt out, corroded or no longer making the needed connection with other parts of the appliance. Your best course of action is to replace the part with a new appliance part.

If you are working on cleaning out the hoses on your clothes dryer, for example, you might want to wear a face mask or some other ventilation protection. Clothes dryer duct work is often clogged with dryer lint and dirt and once you being cleaning and unplugging hoses, the loose dust and lint particle can be inhaled accidentally.

Many do-it-yourselfers use an Ohmmeter or Multimeter (or multi-tester) to test a suspected faulty appliance part. Owning an Ohmmeter will help you determine for sure that a part is indeed bad and can save you time and money during your repairs.

If you can’t see any obvious signs of damage, the part may still be bad. Use an Ohm Meter to test the continuity of the part. An Ohmmeter is an electronic device which measures resistance in an electronic component or circuit.

Appliance repair can be an easy process or very complicated. Making repairs to your appliances ultimately may need to be done by professionals. Keep this in mind as you consider the price savings a self repair may bring. Having an appliance repair company’s phone number handy may be the best way to go just in case problems arise.

Consider this before you shop for carpet.

Are you ready to buy carpet and flooring?

There are some basic things you will need to know. First, think about your home and current situation. How long do you plan on staying at your current home? Why are you replacing the carpet? Or if you are a property manager, how long do you want the floor to last? If you’re a builder, is this a spec home or higher end job? Try to get a feel for the performance that will be expected of the carpet. If you are only going to be in the home for 6 months, it may not make sense to get a higher end carpet style.

Once you have an idea of your need, there are several different styles of carpet:

Plush/Saxony-Very formal and elegant but tends to show tracks. Comes in solid colors.

Berber-can look casual or formal depending on decor, usually made out of olefin so it can mat down somewhat over time, also with Berber, the fewer the seams the better because it’s a loop product and the fewer the seams, the fewer the loops that can become pulled at the edges. Comes in solid and flecked colors, hides surface dirt well if flecked colors.

Semi trackless/textured plush-imagine a plush, but the fibers are slightly twisted to give a still somewhat formal look but shows less tracks than plush. Comes in solid colors but the appearance can change slightly depending on the light.

Frieze- highly twisted, irregular fibers that resemble shag, but are thinner tighter fiber strands. Comes solid or flecked, and like Berber, can hide surface dirt well.

Sculptured/cut loop/high-low- has a pattern with high and low loops or a mix of some loops that are cut and some are pulled tight against the backing. There is a high variation in these styles of color mixes, yarns, looks etc.

Level loop-usually a commercial looking style with short, tight loops of carpet, made for high traffic, usually don’t see in homes.

There are also different types of yarn used in carpet. Nylon is king. It has a nice feel and has superior wear and “memory”. Nylon also resists soil and stains well. Another yarn is Polyester. Polyester may have one of the best “feels” out of all of the yarns. It is also very stain resistant. Polyester may have more “fuzzing” than other yarns though. The third yarn is Olefin. Olefin is a polypropylene blended product. It is extremely stain resistant. It does wear well but can tend to mat down over time. Wool is another option, but very rarely used anymore. Lastly are the Eco yarns. The most popular is PET. PET stands for (polyethylene terephthalate). PET fiber is made out of recycled plastic bottles. It is also extremely stain resistant. DuPont has also introduced Sorona, which can be made into carpet yarn. Sorona is mainly produced from corn syrup.

Keep these various styles and yarns in mind when looking to buy carpet. Be sure to match the right style and yarn for your specific application and need.
