It would be a good idea to do some research and discover what tinnitus is, before embarking on a treatment solution for tinnitus. You will be in a much better position to relieve the tinnitus symptoms once you have a good understanding of the condition.
Many people have suffered with tinnitus for years without having a clear understanding of what it really is.
Tinnitus is a sound in one ear or both ears, such as buzzing, ringing, hissing or whistling, occurring without an external stimulus and is normally caused by a specific condition, such as exposure to loud noise, ear infections, the use of certain prescription drugs, a blocked auditory tube or canal, or a head injury. Sometimes the noise may be generated inside the ear and is audible to a doctor or someone standing close to the person. Sometimes, there is no audible sound to be heard to anyone other than the person who is suffering from the tinnitus.
Tinnitus can be present in both ears or just in one ear. Whilst tinnitus is almost known as a ringing in the ears, there can be many other noises heard as well:
• A Low Hum
• Buzzing
• Swishing
• Rushing Noises Like A Waterfall
• Whistling and many more
Often a blending of some or many of the noises detailed are heard.
Be aware that there are many different types of tinnitus. Some people are locked into believing that there is only one kind of tinnitus and that if their symptoms don’t fall into this category, it must not be tinnitus.
Here are examples and basic descriptions of the types:
Tonal tinnitus- With tonal tinnitus you experience the same sound continuously Most people will refer to this tinnitus type as “ear ringing”.
Pulsatile tinnitus- When you experience tinnitus that pulses in time with your heart beat, this is referred to as pulsatile tinnitus.
Subjective tinnitus- this is where only the patient can hear the noises.
Other common tinnitus sounds experienced are cicada like noises, screeching, humming and tapping.
Anyone of the noises or symptoms discussed point to your having tinnitus. Finding the correct tinnitus treatment is going to be far easier if you have an open mind and are not locked into one avenue to find your tinnitus cure.
